“Haifa Stanga” brings the popular street game born among Haifa’s clotheslines to a makeshift court placed in a Jerusalem yard. Laundry poles become goal posts, while the cords display printed fabrics featuring graphic abstractions of football uniforms from various teams and decades. The exclusion of player names and sponsor logos leaves only the colorful patterns and imagery reminiscent of flags, symbols and folk iconography. The fabrics interfere with play, obscuring the court and decreasing maneuverability, as such that the global adoration of football becomes a poetic obstacle en route to the goal. Visitors are welcome to explore and attempt to play Stanga within the installation.
